Add feeling to your 30-second introductions for greater success

Do you cringe thinking about introducing yourself at networking events?

I used to a lot.

I would stumble and fumble and always feel like there was a better way to describe myself and what I did no matter how much I practiced.  And I noticed I wasn't alone in that experience. Seemed like everyone either has that awkward moment before introducing themselves or they say something that sounds just like every other person in their industry.

Things started to change for me when I attended a networking event and helped a friend video attendees talking about their businesses. I listened and listened and there was one thing that missing for me over and over.

Didn't matter if the attendees were in insurance, banking, marketing or personal training. I was looking through the camera, listening to them and just yearning to hear how they were going to make their clients feel. When the person struggled a bit, I asked "how do you want your clients to feel?" as a prompt and their faces would light up. They went from stumbles and blank stares to their really interesting and committed selves.

That's the secret - how do you want your clients to feel?

We all know the basics of an introduction:

  • Who you are
  • What you do
  • Who you do it for
  • And what you help them accomplish

Combine that with how you want your clients to feel, and you have a winning introduction that is completely flexible:
