How finding your purpose helps you free yourself from mental weight

One huge benefit of finding and then using purpose in life is that it frees you up from the questions like "who am I?" and "what am I about?".

I don't think we realize, at least I didn't, how much those things weigh on us as we think about the relationships, jobs, and life we want.

Of course, finding your purpose doesn't mean that everything that needs to be done is magically done. No there is still work to do and that work isn't always easy or straight forward.

As a purpose coach, what I see is that as people settle deeper and deeper into their purpose they are able to use it faster and faster to make the decision, get unstuck and generally move things forward.

There is no worry about who they are and what they are about, it's just about being more of who they actually are.

That's the first unexpected benefit of knowing your purpose. If you want to see the other 9, go here.

Applying the Powder Day Process to myself

Uncategorized Dec 20, 2019

With my Powder Day Process, we look at 5 areas to help people do more of what they love. Those areas are:

  • Knowing who you are
  • Knowing the Mountain
  • Knowing your Gear
  • Commitment
  • Reflect and Rejuvenate

This is about figuring out who you are, what you love and how you can make that more available to yourself and others.

Since I am doing the same thing as most of my clients, I thought it would make sense to share how I am using this system to prepare for 2020.

Doing this has helped me clarify the things I love (powder days and helping others do more of what they love) and what systems I need to put in place to make it happen

  • Know who you are
    • Purpose
      • About people being great
    • Passion
      • Powder days and helping people do the things they love.
    • What I’m good at
      • Clear on my purpose
      • Have a process for helping people with their purpose
      • Have a way to make things simple and achievable.
    • Where I need to grow
      • Follow Through
      • Sales
      • Consistency
      • Creating clear offers
      • Making events...

15 Minute Purpose Sessions - Deborah

This was a great talk with Deborah - a purpose-based business consultant in Phoenix, AZ. I loved her energy and her spirit.

Deborah is clearly committed to other people and it is exciting to see her get excited.

I hope you can see that learning your purpose doesn't have to be challenging. Now what happens is that Deborah (and anyone who knows their purpose) starts to explore different ways of increasing her ability to experience and share her purpose.

To learn more about this process and how you can use it to produce results in your life, check out this short video about the Purpose ECOSYSTEM

15 Minute Purpose Sessions - Blake

I met Blake at a conference where we had a nice talk about how his service my tribue video service. When he followed up, I told him about my 15-minute purpose sessionS and he graciously agreed to participate.

I loved our conversation in that he started talking about how part of freedom for him was creating meaningful things in the real world. After this video ended, we talked for another 15 minutes about how he has an entire garage full of high-end tools for creating various objects out of wood and metal.

The beauty of identifying our purpose is that it helps us focus on what is important, even if we don't have the time and/or the energy to be doing it right now. But that spark of joy and excitement is there no matter how far it is buried under the gunk of everyday life.

I met Leslie at a local restaurant. i was working on my book and when I explained what I doing after she asked, she said "I could use that". I told her about my 15 minute purpose sessions and she agreed.

You can see her figure out her purpose and what it means to her under 12 minutes. I loved seeing her smile when she does.

Branding, Clarity and Purpose with Katrina Krogstad

purpose spotlight May 12, 2019

An email from Katrina inspired me to do this interview and I'm hoping this will become a regular thing for me as I love hearing about how people are using their purpose. She is a great example of how learning your purpose and learning how to put it to use is a really powerful thing.

in this interview, Katrina talks about how her purpose of play is a bit challenging to share and she is honest about working through the language to find something that really works for her. But that inquiry energized her and gave her a framework for describing a seemingly wide range of businesses.

The real bonus is that she is in action, making changes to her website, re-creating logos, and getting the word out about her services.

She is really inspiring and a wonderful example of what it looks like to put one's purpose to use.

Her website is:

Learning your purpose is the start - 4 things to do to make the most of it.

Uncategorized Mar 06, 2019

Good news is that learning your purpose isn't that difficult. Takes less than 15 minutes with my 2-Question Purpose Process so the "can I learn my purpose?" question is off the table.

But that doesn't mean everything will be hunky dory or smooth sailing. Living a life of purpose means that you will be bumping up against limits throughout your life. You know this already because you can see there are situations where you can be your purpose and there are others where you can't. That doesn't change no matter how well you know your purpose.

After you learn your purpose, there are four more main steps that you will help you make the most of it.

First, you need to determine what your purpose means to you. As I wrote in an earlier post, your purpose will always be in the language of a young person and will use terms like love, happiness, excitement, and adventure. Those terms are incredibly powerful but seem rather generic. But your purpose does mean something specific to you. My purpose...

Why learning your purpose involves going back to middle school

purpose thoughts Feb 28, 2019

No. Anything but that!

I just hear that coming from so many people when they think about those often treacherous and challenging years. Good news is that you don’t have to think about any of the bad things from those years. Learning your purpose is really about the language that you would have used back then as opposed to any of the cringy things you may have faced (or have caused).

Our purpose has been with us for a very long time and is somehow part of our spirit or soul or energy or the wiring of our brains. The source isn’t as important as the fact that we have been interacting with it since we were young.

That means that how we would have used when we first described it, even if we didn’t know what it was exactly, would be in the language of a young person. I find that many people have a hard time remembering the language they used when they were in elementary school but what they said in middle school, say 5th, 6th or 7th grade when then 10, 11 or 12 is...

Why I believe everyone has a purpose.

purpose tips Feb 09, 2019

I tell people every day that I can help figure out their purpose in two questions. It's not a problem at all. But people are wondering, like, how do you know that? You know, what if I don't have one? Well, here's why I know, absolutely, 100%. I have proof that you have a purpose and we could figure it out. The reason is because of all the videos I've done.

If you don't know, I've done hundreds of videos that I call “tribute videos.”

This is where, say, you're going to do a video for your mom. You send me a list of emails of her friends and family. I send out an email campaign and those people respond back with videos or selfies that say, you know, your mom is amazing and brilliant and beautiful and those sorts of things. And we put the videos together.

You're seeing, like, 30 or 40 or 50 people and it just is awesome. She loves it. Everybody laughs and cries. It's just great.

And what you see in those, and it took me a while to see this – it wasn't at first...
